Sayler's Adventures in Mexico

Hola amigos,

It’s me Sayler and I am going to tell you about my last two weeks in Guanajuato (Gto.). We got in at about 8 o’clock p.m., Thursday, October 3. After the property manager showed us around, we went to a restaurant called Truco 7 it was great. We got home at 9:30. All the next morning we unpacked. Our car was really messy from six days of driving.

After a few days of exploring the town, we went to the Mummy Museum. The first mummy we saw was a doctor who died from old age in 1865. He still had his clothes on. Then we moved on to the babies. Some of them died because they were twins and did not have enough strength. The smallest was a 6- month-old fetus. It was 6 in. tall. We also saw a woman who was buried alive.
"
On Sunday we took a drive. On the drive we saw a herd of cows and a herd horses. The biggest cow had horns one foot long and was no more then seven feet away. The horses were about 80 feet away. On the way we found a small river. Then on Tuesday we went back and had a picnic at the river. We spent three hours there then we went home.

Last night we went to a traditional Gto dance. It was awesome. It there was lots of bright colors and big puffy dresses. My favorite part was when some men dressed up as Spaniards did a tap-dancing solo.

Yesterday we went to Leon the leather capital of the country. They sold every skin, from snake to goat and every thing in-between. I really wanted a cow skin but my mom said, “later”. They also had calfskinL. They also had lots and lots of zapatos, or shoes, in Spanish.
"
In Leon, they also had lots of Day of the Dead stuff. We got some stuff for our altar. An altar is a traditional Day of the Dead thing. You find a place were you want it (we did it on a book shelf) then you put stuff that reminds you of your loved ones. For example if your great, great grandma loved sugar so you would put up sugar and sweet treats.

Hope to hear from you! Happy Halloween!!

Dog Days of Summer 2013

It's been a good summer for me, teaching math at SOU, running in a lot of beautiful places, and spending time with Arlene and my son Toby! Yeah, summer is a great time of year. Do you have a story to share about your summer? Post it and let's hear what everyone has been doing! Peace and Light,
